Module 4: MindApp
Networks have provided me with information that I may have not known before creating them. Learning in these networks have given me knowledge that may not have been attainable prior to being part of that network. These networks are supportive to the role I take whether it be wife, mother, sister, counselor and vice versa.
I acess these networks via face to face, technologically such as mobiles, e--mail, video conferencing, threaded discussion. Time zone issues with friends/colleagues have become less of a nuisance with technology. These networks have changed my personal learning by making it easier to access them via the use of technologies. The most impressive way I have been influenced is that I can obtain information via the internet 24/7. If I do not know something, I just use a search engine to access thousands of virtual sites that become my learning ground.

Hi Jeannine:
ReplyDeleteYour MindApp is nice and clean. I wonder if you experience any overlap among the areas your identified? For example, do any of your family, church or readings influence who you are as a teacher/professional?
Secondly - when using search engines to enhance your learning how do you evaluate the validity and quality of the materials you access?
Thanks for sharing.
Hi Jeannine
ReplyDeleteI echo your opinion about how great to have 24/7 access to the information.
Among the different category listed in your Mind Map, do you find any particular group you utilize technology as a networking tool more than others?
Your post reflects the Connectivism model very well. I would say your description is typical of the connectivist approach to learning that has become normative for people today, whether they are metacognitively conscious of it or not. Your description is comparable, in some ways, to how we use a flash drive or memory card on which data is stored, retrieved, and added to. It becomes a sort of knowledgebase which we can access for information and to which we add information. In this way, learners can store knowledge outside of themselves and free-up their human memory banks for other more pressing data storage.
ReplyDelete@Deborah, honestly, my own experience has influenced the type of counselor I am meaning how I portray myself to the students. Other than that the other areas I do for myself or for fun.
ReplyDeleteI guess depending on what I am looking for information on prompts me to check its validity.
@MH, I probably access technology in my personal life most.
@Marlon, Your analogy of a flash drive is so 21st century, thanks for the comment.
Jeannine,
ReplyDeleteWonderful post on connectivism. I like you mind map it is clear and percise. As I did mine I found that it overlapped and some of my networks carried into other networks. The thought of a new learning theory is very intriguing and interesting. I look forward to doing the paper. What are your thoughts on this theory?
Jeannine,
ReplyDeleteYou have presented some great information as it related to your personal netowrks. But my questions is; outside of friends, what role does technology play in the other areas in your networks?
@Lynne, Not so sure yet in regards to my position, need do undertake more research.
ReplyDelete@Andree, At work I utilize technology to find different lessons for my groups or just to obtain further information on something in particular.
